hidden within This stopgap spending bill is a provision that has sparked controversy among many conservatives on and off Capitol Hill.

The provision, titled “Treatment of Electronic Services Provided to House Offices,” sounds vague, but could halt or limit investigations into Congress.

Part of the section reads:

If a complaint is promptly filed by the House Office or a provider of the House Office, the court of competent jurisdiction If disclosure of data of the House of Commons Office is necessary to comply with legal process, the legal process directed against the provider of the House of Commons shall be terminated or modified..

Information regarding the impact of the use of providers — The Office of the Chief Executive Officer, in consultation with the Office of the General Counsel, will provide information on the potential constitutional implications and privileges that may be asserted by each House office enforcing the right. shall provide information regarding the potential impact of or use providers of electronic communications or remote computing services. “New provisions in the latest CR allow Congress to block subpoenas to House data, including emails, and could block any investigation into the J6 committee,” conservative activist Benny said.・Mr. Johnson wrote about X.

Donald Trump Jr. wrote: “So the House is going to vote to protect itself from obvious fraud? The American people didn't vote for this. They voted no. They voted for transparency. I can't go through this.”

Elon Musk wrote, “What the heck!!??”

Musk added: “Any Representative or Senator who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out within two years!”
