Ron Howard to Produce J.D. Vance's Bestselling Memoir Hillbilly Elegy The director, who starred in a Hollywood film four years ago, publicly slammed the Republican vice presidential nominee, saying he was “surprised and disappointed” by “the rhetoric I'm reading and hearing.”
Promoting his latest film at the Toronto Film Festival EdenRon Howard was asked about J.D. Vance by several media outlets, some of whom clearly held a grudge against him.
“Well, we didn't really talk about politics when we were making the movie because we were interested in his upbringing and his survival story. That's what we focused on primarily,” Howard said. Reply In its questioning of Howard, Deadline described Vance as “polarizing” and “volatile.”
“But based on the conversations I've had during that time, I have to say I'm very surprised and disappointed by a lot of the rhetoric I'm reading and hearing. People change, and I believe that's true.”
Howard made a similar suggestion. response To Variety When asked about Vance.
“I've been surprised and concerned by a lot of the comments that have come out of this campaign,” the filmmaker said. “I'm not going to vote for Donald Trump to be president again, no matter who the vice president is, but I can say that I was certainly surprised given my experience five or six years ago.”
Howard urged Americans to “go out and vote, whoever you're voting for, but think carefully. Listen to what the candidates are saying today. That's what really matters, who they are today. And make an informed decision.”
Hillbilly Elegy Star Glenn Close also disliked J.D. Vance after receiving an Academy Award nomination for her role as his grandmother.
As Breitbart News reported, the actress slammed Vance on Instagram for comments he made about cats a few years ago, and in two recent Instagram posts she defended women who own cats. “Eve would leave a bleeding rat's head on the bed of anyone who criticizes women who own cats!” Close wrote.
