‘Hillbilly Elegy’ Trends Big on Netflix Following JD Vance VP Pick

Feature film version Hillbilly Elegy The film, directed by Ron Howard and based on the memoir of the same name by J.D. Vance, became a huge hit on Netflix, garnering both attention and ridicule from viewers after it was featured on the app’s landing page.

Breitbart News reported that many Netflix users were excited to watch the film’s portrayal of Vance’s real-life ordeal, just hours after the former President Donald Trump named him as his running mate in the 2024 presidential election, catapulting him to national prominence.

Published by Vance Hillbilly Elegy Published in 2016, the book is a vivid portrayal of his impoverished childhood in the Rust Belt.

The book details the life of Vance, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Iraq War before returning to the United States, graduating from Ohio State University and earning a law degree from Yale Law School.

While many praised the film, others were outraged at Netflix’s picking it up. Hillbilly Elegy It’s so noticeable that some people are threatening to cancel their subscriptions.

As of Thursday, the film was trending upwards to No. 4 on Netflix’s top 10 list of most-watched movies in the U.S.

On Tuesday, “Hillbilly Elegy” was No. 6 on the list.
