Hirono ripped for ‘deranged’ opening confirmation hearing question to Burgum: ‘This lady has issues’

Democratic Sen. Maisie Hirono of Hawaii faced ridicule on social media Thursday over her opening question during Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum's confirmation hearing.

As part of my responsibility to ensure the qualifications of candidates on my committee, I first ask these two questions,'' Hirono told Burkum on Thursday. Have you ever been subjected to unwanted sexual advances, verbal or physical harassment, or sexual assault?”

“No, Senator, I didn't hear that,” Mr. Burgum replied.

Hirono has asked similar opening questions to several other candidates in the past, including defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth and attorney general nominee Pam Bondi, and has taken to social media over the question. was widely criticized by conservatives.

Henry Rogers, the Daily Caller's chief national correspondent, said Hirono had gone “out of his mind” about X.

Hirono's office did not respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
