On CNN’s “The Situation Room” broadcast Friday, Biden campaign co-chair Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) did not address whether President Joe Biden resembles the person we saw on stage at Thursday’s debate, but said, “He’s as intelligent, he’s engaged and his cognitive abilities are as good as ever.”
Moderator Wolf Blitzer asked, “Senator, you mentioned Vice President Kamala Harris, who repeatedly dodged Anderson Cooper’s question about whether the Biden we saw in the debate last night was the same person he is. How would you answer that question? You know him well.”
Coons responded, “Yes. I was in Europe for a few days at the G7 summit in Italy. Leaders across Europe who have met and worked with him say the same thing I can say from my experience working with him and meeting him: He’s quick-witted, he’s engaged, his cognitive abilities are as good as ever. Yes, he walks a little bit unsteadily. He speaks a little softly at times. But his leadership abilities, his ability to surround himself with good people and make the right choices for the American people are undiminished. And, frankly, his record is one of the better records of any president in my lifetime.”
