Hochul dragged for calling NJ ‘west of Manhattan’ in earthquake statement

I don’t have many relationships with my neighbors.

New York Gov. Cathy Hochul received a kick in the ribs Friday morning for not naming New Jersey in her announcement about a strange earthquake that shook the region.

“A magnitude 4.8 earthquake occurred west of Manhattan and was felt across New York,” Hochul shared on X just after 10:30 a.m.

Gov. Kathy Hochul held a press conference just beforehand and mentioned the earthquake. Governor Kathy Hochul

This rare event actually occurred less than 10 minutes ago near Lebanon in the Garden State.

The quake was felt not only in New York, including Manhattan, but also as far north as New Paltz, about 130 miles away.

Eagle-eyed social media users were quick to condemn Hochul’s apparent inaction.

“This place is called New Jersey. It’s okay to say my name.” Hoop It Up CEO George Daniel quipped:.

“It was Jersey. You can pretend you care about people who don’t live in New York.” Former New York State Congressman Ben Geller answered.

Some commenters tried to stir up conflict between the governors.

“@NJGov @GovMurphy can someone please give her some clarity about West Manhattan?” someone wrote.

“Can New Jersey impeach New York’s governor?” New Jersey Monitor editor Terrence T. MacDonald fired.

“New Jersey shakes, New York catches.” Amy Torres, executive director of the New Jersey Immigrant Justice Alliance, responded:a reference to the famous saying, “What Trenton makes, it takes the world.”

“Calling New Jersey ‘West of New York’ is a war of words.” Another X user chimed in.
