It's time to start mulliganing at this price.
Paul, of Long Island, is appalled by the high ticket prices for next year's Ryder Cup golf tournament at the state-run course in Bethpage and is asking Gov. Cathy Hochul to intervene and cut costs.
Golf enthusiasts are outraged that the PGA has set ticket prices at a whopping $750 per person for the twice-yearly international event at Bethpage's famous Black Course. The Black Course is located within a state park and is known as “The People's Country Club'' because it is open to all. You can play for yourself for just $44.
“Perhaps the governor should have some discussions with the PGA to allow individuals other than corporate executives to experience the Ryder Cup in person,” state Sen. Anthony Palumbo (R-Suffolk) told the paper. ” he said.
“It's unfortunate that the PGA thinks that ripping off fans with exorbitant ticket prices somehow represents the Ryder Cup tradition of fun competition and teamwork. Bethpage Black is a municipal course. , tickets should be available at affordable prices for everyday fans,” the Long Island senator added.
Some voters wonder if the governor could use some leverage to put pressure on the PGA, given that the course is state-run and many voters will be sacrificed.
“The residents here who were most affected by this event are being denied access to the event. It's not fair,” Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino told the Post.
He said he would set variable prices so that wealthy fans who wanted “champagne service” would pay more, while other fans who wanted beer would pay less.
“There should be something for everyone,” Saladino added.
Rep. Jake Blumenkrantz (R-Nassau) suggested a possible middle ground, such as a discounted community day to allow local enthusiasts to attend the event.
“I fully support the idea of community days that provide free or low-cost access and activities. This would be a great way to ensure residents share in the excitement of this world-class event. “Yes,” Blumenkrantz said.

Despite calls for action, Hochul refused to tee off for the prize.
“The State of New York is excited to welcome golf fans to Bethpage State Park for the 2025 Ryder Cup. The PGA of America is a private organization and the State has no obligation to change ticket prices for the tournament. There is no authority,” a spokesperson for Hochul said in a statement to the Post.
The Ryder Cup is a high-profile competition held once every two years, pitting American professional teams against European professional teams over three days. The $750 price is for the actual competition days, scheduled for September 26-28, 2025, but tickets to watch practice earlier in the week were cheaper.
Tickets are available in the days leading up to the 2016 Ryder Cup in Minnesota. On sale around First round is $175. Prices that year fell on the eve of the competition.
Bethpage State Park's Black Course became the first publicly operated course to host a major championship, hosting the prestigious 2002 U.S. Open won by Tiger Woods.
It also hosted the 2009 U.S. Open and the 2019 PGA Championship, both of which were as affordable as the 2002 Open, making the facility one of golf's most popular destinations for its raucous, working-class crowds. This led to a good reputation.
With the Ryder Cup expected to draw a more affluent and classy crowd, some have suggested that price may actually affect the performance of the U.S. team, with the U.S. team using less of a home-field advantage. You may not be able to enjoy it.
“I'm going to go on record now that Europe lost the Ryder Cup at Bethpage because exorbitant ticket prices turned the crowd into a polite slumber party like LACC (Los Angeles Country Club). If he wins, his performance will go down.'It's a huge own goal,' said golf commentator Kevin Van Valkenburgh. I wrote to X.
Nevertheless, the PGA of America has defended the move.
“We consider ourselves a Tier 1 event on par with the World Series or Game 7 of the NBA Finals,” PGA of America championship director Brian Kearns said in an interview on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. Ta. “That was part of it.”
Kearns said the organization worked with an outside firm to explore pricing across different sports and teams.
He cited the prices of the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics and Lambeau Field as factors in the final pricing for the next Ryder Cup.
“We can leverage data from all these different places. We can see, 'What are people paying?'” Kearns said. “Where do we see ourselves in this landscape? I think that's the reality. It's like putting the Yankees' World Series opener on your bucket list. Ultimately, we felt that's where we were. Demand for this event is at an all-time high, so the pricing is right. I kept this in mind.
