Hollywood had to learn faith comes first in ‘Duck Dynasty’

“Duck Dynasty” star Willie Robertson was born into poverty, but his family’s wildly successful reality TV show would have viewers believe otherwise.

“A lot of Christians told us, ‘Oh, we can’t do that, it will destroy families,’ but I thought, ‘If not us, who will?'” Robertson says. Glenn Beckrecalling the beginnings of his family’s rise to fame.

“We felt that we were solidified in our beliefs and who we were,” he continued, adding, “Opportunities are given, and I felt like God had brought us here and said, ‘Here’s your opportunity.'”

When Willie proposed the idea to his father, Phil RobertsonHe thought about starting a reality TV show but wasn’t interested until Willie told him it could help reach more people with the gospel.

“That’s what attracted me,” Glenn says. “I heard people talking about you guys. They were like, ‘There’s this show, and at the end they pray.’

Prayer and faith were a big part of their show, but the Hollywood producers who originally produced it weren’t happy.

Willie acknowledges that the production company used to edit out the “In Jesus’ Name” bit, but no longer does so. “I think they always struggled with how to make it work,” he continues. “They added a – I wouldn’t say anti-faith, but it was definitely a very secular show on the back of it.”

When viewers are confronted with the subsequent program, they will switch channels.

“I think they’re having a hard time figuring out how much of an impact it has had, especially the faith part and the prayer part,” Willie said.

“In a nutshell, what was the secret of this show? Why did it work?” asks Glenn.

“I think it was a combination of authenticity, conviction and fun,” Willie says.
