During a panel discussion held to commemorate International Women’s Day, she specifically considered the “sexualization” of young women in our country.
“I was at the center of it,” Shields said. “And I was promoting it and actually doing it,” she continued.

I had a community around me that protected me and encouraged me. So I didn’t become a statistic like Hollywood made me out to be.

While appearing on a panel at SXSW, Shields also opened up about ageism in Hollywood.
“At 58, she’s too old to be a bride, but she’s not yet a grandmother,” Shields said.

Shields said in a 2023 documentary that she was raped by a “Hollywood A-lister” as a young rising star.
