Hollywood Financier Arrested on Wire Fraud Charges

Jason Cross, a well-known financier and executive producer in Hollywood, was taken into custody in Los Angeles following the unsealing of a federal grand jury indictment in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

The 60-year-old is facing seven counts of wire fraud, accused of running a substantial financial scheme that allegedly deceived investors and advisory firms out of over $100 million.

According to federal prosecutors, Cross solicited significant investments by claiming they would fund film, television, and gaming projects. However, instead of using the funds as intended, he purportedly created false financial statements about the actual performance and value of those investments.

Prosecutors further allege that Cross employed traditional Ponzi scheme tactics, continuously raising money from new investors to pay off earlier ones, thus maintaining the façade of legitimacy.

A considerable amount of the diverted funds were allegedly funneled into unauthorized private ventures, including real estate developments in Canada.

The indictment calls for the forfeiture of at least $12.25 million, and each wire fraud charge could result in a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
