Hollywood Reporter Finally Admits ‘Divisive Politics’ Damage Star Appeal

This is the only time the far left did it. Hollywood Reporter (THR) It was almost 10 years ago that he contacted me. That came after I argued that Seth Rogen’s divisive political rants hurt the box office of his highly anticipated biopic. Steve Jobs (I failed). THR Basically, he called me on the carpet to explain himself in defense of the common sense idea that divisive celebrities detract from box office appeal.

Thankfully, I met the only good guy over there, Paul Bond (now newsweek) So, the Q&A is report accurately. But the premise of the interview was clear. Nolte, please explain! So I did – and the facts, the logic, and THR’s own report. I also had the audacity to predict that Quentin Tarantino’s grotesque patronizing of the black community would be tarnished by his bashing of police officers. Hateful Eight Box office returns were attractive (the film subsequently flopped).

Needless to say, THR It has been ignoring me ever since.

I don’t mean to brag, but as someone who has often cringed at past works, I’m proud of that interview. Oh, and you’ve probably noticed that Seth Rogen isn’t making headlines for his political insults anymore. He’s not Tarantino either.

But what I want to say is THR Common sense is so frothy and corrupt that if a product spokesperson, whether it’s Ronald McDonald, Captain Crunch, or a movie star, pisses off half the customers, it hurts the bottom line. I was asked publicly to explain my thinking.

THR He refused to admit that such things were true because to do so would hurt the left’s cause. Stupid stars and celebrities can no longer be fooled into believing that destroying half the country is good PR.

Moreover, THR I’ve never seen anyone suggest that their appeal would be diminished if their stars were politically polarizing, but of course that’s ridiculous. Of course, it hurts the bottom line.

Well, what do you think? Finally it happened. finally, THR acknowledged that divisive political statements could detract from the star’s appeal.

However, there are of course caveats.

Wow, this is beautiful…

Anything that could be used to identify who is what is intentionally removed. THR We are discussing:

You should also note the following: [this big, famous star’s] His recent stance on divisive political issues may make it difficult for even longtime fans to accept him wholeheartedly. But for those who want to put reality aside for 90 minutes, [his movie] The film lathers up storytelling tropes and clichés.

A reasonable person could list dozens of names in that paragraph, all of whom are left-wing stars and celebrities, and all of whom have been criticized for their recent stances on divisive political issues. Even his fans will find it difficult to accept him wholeheartedly.”

THR I could have written this paragraph hundreds of times over the years, but (as far as I can see) I’ve never written it. The reason is obvious. This truth will never be told in a bubble to further the cause of the left. THR I protect it very passionately.

So why? THR Now I’m going to tell you the truth, are you talking about this person?

have THR Have we finally seen the light about Rob Reiner? Meryl Streep? Stephen King? Alec Baldwin? No, no, no, no…

the jerry seinfeld.

You know, it’s not a problem for entertainment media to admit that speaking out about politics is damaging to a star, when the star in question is guilty of speaking the truth that damages the left’s cause — The Neighbor Seinfeld did that.

What a miserable group of people.

But at least, even if it’s 10 years from now, THR I admitted I was right.
