Homan Threatens Funding for States that Impede Deportation — ‘That’s Going to Happen’

During an appearance on FNC's “Life, Liberty and Levin” on Sunday, incoming Trump border czar Tom Homan said that President-elect Donald Trump has no control over state and local governments' plans for deportation policies. He said he would not tolerate interference.

Homan told host Mark Levine that one of the consequences would be withholding federal funds from local governments that refuse to cooperate with the federal government.

“Tom Homan“When Democrats took over, they had a very powerful weapon of federal funding that they used all the time against state and local Republican administrations,” Levin said. “If a governor says, 'I'm not going to work with you, I'm going to block you,' federal funding to that state should be cut, and that's saying a lot, so the people of that state understand.” The governor is in charge, the mayor is in charge.”

“They can push themselves as hard as they want to become a sanctuary city,” he continued. “Whether they like it or not, they are part of the United States. This is a federal issue. Even the governor of Texas is the one trying to enforce federal laws against the Biden administration, which will not do so. But , these states, like the Confederacy, want to act independently and do their own things. To me, you have a particularly powerful weapon. That's it. Boom.''

“And it will happen,” Homan replied. “I guarantee you, President Trump will. But secondly, this administration has turned this world upside down and now I'm being attacked, right? I'm getting death threats. My family doesn't live in my house right now, which means all of a sudden I'm in law enforcement. The people who try to do this are the bad guys. The people who break the law are the victims. And the mayors and governors who are trying to stop me and the people who are trying to stop ICE from doing this work. Stop doing that, listen to the Laken Riley tape.”

“Listen to the 17 minutes this girl suffered, fought for her life, and took her last breath,” he continued. “This girl didn't want to die. She fought so hard. And listen to that tape, it happens every day across this country at the hands of illegal aliens. And in closing, let me say this. Now, President Trump has made it clear that we will immediately prioritize public safety threats and national security threats because they pose the most danger to this country.”

“What governor or mayor wouldn't want to remove a public safety or national security threat from their neighborhood?” Homan added. “Outside of their community? That's your number one responsibility. I mean, you can hate Trump all you want, but you have to love your community more than you hate President Trump.”
