Billy Donovan found himself back in college, where he could gain pure prestige.
Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart is embarking on a search for the next head coach for the University of Kentucky basketball program. 3rd place overall under his leadership. In 2007 and 2009, he had one name in particular that Britain had a big shot at. Fast forward to 2024 and the situation is the same.
Donovan won 2 national championships Since then, he has worked in the NBA for 10 years as the head coach of the Florida Gators. This 2023-24 season, Donovan is scheduled to make his seventh appearance in the NBA Playoffs. However, with that being said, Donovan could return to the Blue next season, returning to the Blue with the program he coached under Rick Pitino from 1989-1994 (5 seasons), and returning to Lexington again. You might end up calling it home. (Related: South Carolina’s Dawn Staley earns $700,000 bonus for third national championship)
Could that actually happen?
Only time will tell, but ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Donovan has been branded a “home run recruit” by Kentucky, and the connection between the two could lead to him becoming the next head coach of Wildcats basketball. It is reported that there is a sex.

Hmm, isn’t this interesting…
But my point is, if you were Billy Donovan, would you want to go back to college basketball at this point?
Now that there’s an NIL in the college game, it might be better to stay in the NBA where the contract is at least tied to the pros (plus the league pays better too).
