An 81-year-old West Virginia man who allegedly shot and killed an innocent Uber driver after being scammed said he was warned that he and his family would be killed unless he paid $12,000.

“I want the sheriff and an ambulance to come right away. There’s been gunfire,” he told the operator.
“I shot her first in the leg and then in the shoulder,” the 80-year-old man said, adding that he targeted her after a stranger threatened her on the phone.
“The guy on the phone was trying to extort money from me,” Block said. “He told me he was going to kill me and my family and everyone around me.”
Police said the scammer told Block that a relative was in prison and ordered him to pay $12,000 to secure his release.
Block told the operator that he thought the death threat scammer was working with Hall, and that Hall had been scammed by the same scammer and that he had heard calls for help after he was shot. Told.
Investigators are reportedly tracking the scammer’s calls to Canada and believe he made the calls using a burner phone.
According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was also contacted by the same person or an accomplice and was instructed to pick up a package from Bullock’s home via the Uber app.
When she arrived, Bullock allegedly ordered her to identify the person who contacted her and took her cell phone when she refused to leave.

Hall was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital, where he died during surgery.
A sheriff’s office spokesperson said, “Mr. Hall, who was ill and unarmed, did not threaten or assault Mr. Bullock in any way and asked him about a package he had picked up through the Uber app.” I didn’t ask for anything other than that.” he told WHIO in a statement.
“At no point during the encounter did Mr. Hall display an active threat, and did the failure to seek assistance from authorities while Mr. Bullock brandished a firearm, during which time did he fire multiple shots at Mr. Hall. “As a result of firing the gun multiple times and striking him, Mr. Bullock was arrested and charged with murder,” the agent added.
Bullock has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and his bail was set at $200,000.
“The Clark County Sheriff’s Office would like to take this opportunity to remind residents, especially the elderly, that law enforcement and the courts will not contact anyone to request cash bail, as was the case in this case.
