Homeowner in his 60s confronts male tampering with door — then male breaks through it, cops say. But homeowner has a gun.

A Philadelphia homeowner in the '60s confronted a man tampering with his front door last Monday night. He told WPVI-TV.

The station said it could see police inspecting the doors of the house in the 1000 block of Cobb Creek Parkway near Cedarhurst in the southwest of the city, when gathering evidence after the incident.

“It's when the homeowner fires one after breaking into the door and facing the homeowner.”

WPVI said the couple was only in their 60s when the incident unfolded around 11pm – was at home.

“The homeowner who was in the house at the time saw someone tampering with a ring camera,” Philadelphia Police Department Premier Scott Small told the station.

In addition to the station, police also faced the man, and he broke through the front door, WPVI noted.

When police arrived, they found the man bleeding after being shot dead, the station said, adding that he later died at a nearby hospital.

“After breaking into the door and facing the homeowner, he fired one shot and hit a 64-year-old who just broke into the house, and he was right in the enclosed front porch. I fell inwards,” he told WPVI. “That's where the police found him.”

Investigators noted the station, finding fresh damage to the wooden door and ring cameras pulled from the wall. Police also told WPVI that the man was homeless.
