A man involved in a murder investigation in California’s capital was shot and killed by police Wednesday after he allegedly came out of his home with a firearm, 130 miles away in Oakland, authorities said Thursday.
In a brief statement, the Oakland Police Department announced that Sacramento police officers have notified the Oakland Police Department of a homicide investigation in Oakland and requested their assistance in apprehending the suspect.

According to the department, when Oakland police arrived in West Oakland and were patrolling the area where the suspect was, a man came out of a home with a gun, and officers opened fire, killing the suspect.

Officers administered first aid to the man until paramedics arrived, but he died at the scene.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and Oakland Regional Police Review Bureau investigate the shooting.
Oakland police said they could not share any other information “to ensure the integrity of the investigation.”

“Further details will be shared in accordance with the law once the investigation process is permitted,” the ministry said.
