Honda is recalling about 1.7 million Honda and Acura vehicles in the United States due to a possible defective steering gearbox part that could pose a safety risk.

In recalled vehicles, increased friction between these two parts can “increase steering effort and difficulty, increasing the risk of crashes and injuries,” the report said.

The NHTSA report said there were no injuries or deaths caused by the defective steering gearbox component and the problems it could cause. Meanwhile, the company responded to more than 10,300 warranty claims.

“Registered owners of all affected models will be contacted by mail and asked to bring their vehicles to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer,” Honda said in a statement.
