Honduran undocumented immigrant claims innocence in the murder of a Georgia grandmother.

A 21-year-old man from Honduras, accused of murdering his grandmother in Georgia, waived his arrest and entered a not guilty plea to capital murder and other charges in Cobb County Superior Court on Monday.

Hector David Sagastume Rivas is scheduled to stand trial on June 23, based on court documents. Authorities claim he attacked Kamilia Williams, 52, in March, and her body was later discovered in a wooded area.

Rivas, who is undocumented, was arrested and released by the Biden administration at the southern border in March 2021. He has been under deportation orders since July 2023, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs.

“In March 2025, my sister lost her life because the system couldn’t banish him after he was taken into custody,” expressed Kamilia’s brother, Arsen Williams. Another brother, Tony Williams, stated, “My sister took her last breath in Georgia, so she needs to take her last breath in Georgia.”

Rivas faces multiple charges, including capital murder, aggravated assault, rape, aggravated sexual assault, and necrophilia. He is currently being held in prison without bond.

Kamilia Williams’ case bears similarities to that of Laken Riley, whose remains were also found in the woods following a murder committed by immigrants who had previously been apprehended and released by border authorities in Georgia. That individual was later convicted for Riley’s killing.
