Florida Hospital Worker Arrested for Theft

A hospital employee in Florida was arrested recently after being accused of stealing the wallet of a 94-year-old patient and misusing the victim’s credit card.

Bailey Slater, 28, who worked as a patient care technician at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, reportedly took the elderly patient’s wallet on January 22. That same day, he racked up over $500 in charges on the victim’s credit card, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Surveillance footage released by the sheriff’s office shows a masked Slater leaving a Target store while pushing a cart filled with shopping bags.

Following the identification of the suspected theft, hospital officials contacted the authorities and collaborated with detectives to address the situation.

Slater faces several charges, including first-degree petty theft, two counts of fraudulent credit card use, and two counts of fraud involving the personal details of an elder.

An arrest warrant was issued, and Slater voluntarily surrendered at Orient Road Jail on Friday.

Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed outrage at the incident, stating that it is disgraceful to exploit vulnerable community members while being trusted to care for them. He assured that justice would be pursued to hold offenders accountable.

The investigation into the matter is still underway.
