Host Asserts Democrats Haven't Compared Trump to Hitler

CLAIM: MSNBC host Nicole Wallace stated that she believes “no Democrat” has compared President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.

Verdict: False. Some Democratic figures have indeed used language likening Trump to Hitler, asserting that he “wants to be Hitler.”

During a conversation with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker on her podcast, Wallace mentioned that J.D. Vance had previously criticized Trump, labeling him “America’s Hitler.”

As reported, Vance was quite critical of Trump during the 2016 election cycle, both in public and private.

He expressed mixed feelings back then, saying he could see Trump as either a “cynical bastard like Nixon,” or perhaps “America’s Hitler.”

Wallace remarked, “J.D. Vance called Donald Trump America’s Hitler. This isn’t purely partisan commentary. There’s a conspiracy that he, along with journalists, highlights. You elaborate on the dangers implicated when American citizens are being asked for their documents, or when street vendors are mandated to show their passports. Good people are just ignoring these red flags.”

Pritzker, while discussing concerning trends in the U.S., accused Trump of attempting to use the military to meddle in future elections, claiming this aligns with historical strategies.

However, Pritzker emphasized that he wasn’t equating Trump directly to Hitler, clarifying his stance with, “I’m not suggesting that Donald Trump is Hitler.”

Wallace retorted, “I don’t believe any Democrats did that. I actually think this is a slur redirected at their critics. Vance did call Trump ‘cultural heroin’ and ‘America’s Hitler.’”

Despite Wallace’s claim, some Democratic lawmakers, like former Rep. Beto O’Rourke and Rep. Jasmine Crockett, have indeed made similar comparisons.

In an earlier comment, O’Rourke described Trump paralleling Hitler “in terms of propaganda,” specifically referring to the big lies that are repeated to gain belief.

He stated the larger the lie, the more plausible it appears, drawing comparisons to Goebbels and Hitler.

Crockett went further in a July interview, saying Trump resembles a “Hitler wannabe” while discussing related issues.

She noted a desire among his supporters to remain loyal, implying they recognize potential problems but are hesitant to act against him.

Additionally, former President Joe Biden’s campaign has accused Trump of echoing Hitler’s rhetoric.

An image on the Biden-Harris account highlighted certain statements made by Trump as reminiscent of Hitler’s.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also raised alarms about the potential for Trump to behave dictatorially if re-elected.
