House committee approves subpoenas for DOJ regarding Epstein documents

The House Observation Subcommittee has given the green light to several subpoenas, including one for the Department of Justice to obtain materials linked to the Epstein case.

This federal law enforcement subcommittee has also decided to summon testimony from notable Democratic figures, among them former President Clinton.

The Epstein-related measure passed with an 8-2 vote, spearheaded by Summer Lee (D-Pa.), with Republicans Nancy Mace (SC) and Scott Perry (Pa.) siding with the Democrats.

“Today, the Surveillance Democrats successfully pushed for transparency regarding the Epstein Files. House Republicans certainly didn’t make it easy, but they ultimately had to agree to share the Epstein Files with the Department of Justice,” Lee stated.

“Let’s be honest here. This is a significant win for the American people. We have a right to know who was involved in Epstein’s horrific crimes, especially those in positions of power. Today’s vote is merely the first step toward holding people accountable.

An amendment proposed by Rep. Lee Biggs (R-Ariz.) aimed at making public all communications between President Biden, his administration, and the Department of Justice concerning Jeffrey Epstein. This amendment was adopted through audio voting. There was also an adjustment made by Mace to protect the identity of victims and delete sensitive material related to child abuse, also adopted via audio voting.

The committee also backed allegations from Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA.) through audio voting. They further agreed to broaden the full committee’s investigation into Epstein’s matters by issuing subpoenas to several prominent former Democrats, including Garland and former FBI director Robert Mueller.

Perry’s allegations also cover three former GOP officials, including Attorney General Bill Barr and ex-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who served under Trump, as well as former Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, appointed by George W. Bush.

This wave of subpoenas follows a previous decision by the full oversight committee to subpoena Epstein’s ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, with House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY.) officially issuing the subpoena on Wednesday.

This move comes just as House GOP leaders announced plans for an early August recess, following some contention regarding Epstein’s case.

Still, Democrats have successfully garnered some Republican support for Epstein-related measures in the surveillance panel.
