House Dem Green’s GOP challenger dishes on campaign after outburst during Trump speech

Exclusive: Dedrick Wilmer, who runs in Texas to fire longtime Democrat Al Green, spoke to Fox News Digital about why he decided to take part in the race and what will happen if his priorities are elected.

Wilmer, who runs against Green as a “compassionate conservative” Republican in Texas' 9th Congressional District, told Fox News Digital, “The difference between me and incumbent is that I'm trying to provide solutions and bring people together.”

Green dominated the headline after it existed Removed from President Trump's speech Earlier this month, Wilmer told Congress that he “will not have responded that way” to Fox News Digital, but he told Congress he was focusing on what his constituents want in terms of policy.

“They want a future,” Wilmer said. “My current position has served this community well over the years, but it's time for the future. I know what you know, and I'll highlight this, it's all about coming up with work policies and opportunities, lowering the costs of food and services, and building relationships across the aisle. This is the ninth district. The district starts at home.”

Wilmer told Fox News Digital that he is planning a campaign on “Kitchen Table Issues,” including reducing healthcare premiums, implementing flood protection in Houston, reducing costs of living, and introducing businesses to his district.

Green, who has served in Congress since 2005, has won all his reelection campaigns, including a 50-point victory in 2022 when he faced Republicans head-to-head.

Wilmer told Fox News Digital that Greene “familiarly” served the district, but when he spoke to residents of the district, he said he had a desire for change.

“I'm the future, he's the past,” Wilmer said.

“At the heart of everything, what is our true calling?” Wilmer told Fox News Digital. “What is the meaning and purpose of life? Our founding father has built this great nation on the principle that we must only help ourselves. It must support those who cannot care for ourselves. It prioritizes our illnesses and the elderly, and stands in the military and veterans to ensure that all men, women and children are protected by the laws and leadership that guide our nation.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Green's office for comment.

Green, who submitted multiple perch articles to President Trump, was denounced by Congress for his explosion during Trump's speech.

“A few questions, questions of conscience, you're willing to suffer from consequences,” Green said of his explosion. “And I said I would, because no believe that in the richest countries in the world, people should be without good health care, whatever the outcome is.”
