House Democrat: ‘Elon Musk is still here’

House Democrat: 'Elon Musk isn't gone'

Rep. Greg Cassar (D-Texas) has called on fellow Democrats to persist in advocating for Elon Musk’s removal from government roles, despite any indications he may be stepping back to concentrate on his business.

“Elon Musk isn’t really out of the picture. We can’t allow Republicans to act like his decreased popularity changes anything,” remarked the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in a post on social media Thursday.

“We need to keep the pressure on until we actually terminate Musk,” he added.

This statement from Cassar followed reports of Musk’s presence on Capitol Hill, where he was meeting with Republican members of the Energy and Commerce Committee to talk about energy matters and artificial intelligence.

Musk’s tenure in the White House has been marked by considerable controversy, notably his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aimed to slash federal budgets and reduce the workforce.

Recently, however, Musk has stepped back from the political arena as his special government status is set to lapse on May 30. He mentioned to Tesla shareholders last month his intention to decrease his involvement with DOGE to dedicate more time to Tesla and other business ventures, amidst the backlash his government-related activities generated.

In a recent interview, Musk confirmed his upcoming visit to the White House.

During discussions at the Qatar Economic Forum on Tuesday, Musk announced his plans to reduce political contributions after investing over $250 million in support of Trump’s 2024 campaign and beyond.

“Going forward, my political spending will be significantly reduced,” stated the Tesla CEO.

“If I find a compelling reason to contribute politically in the future, I might consider it,” he said. “But, for now, I don’t see that need.”
