Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) on Sunday said people on “all aspects” of the political spectrum were “vivid” in President Trump’s “economy handling.”
“I think the Arizonan I spoke to, I think I’m absolutely looking at people from all sides of the political realm in Trump’s economy, and the tariff issues are big in Arizona,” Ansari told News Nation’s Chris Starwald on “Hill Sunday.”
“When he’s chasing trading partners like Mexico and Canada, it really impacts us and you have people across the entire political spectrum that are very concerned,” she added.
Trump’s recent tariff policies have rattled markets, raised economic unrest in the US and the world as a whole, and have created tense relationships with allies such as Canada and the European Union.
Following the announcement of tariffs Trump cleaned earlier this month, European Commission Chairman Ursula von der Leyen told Europeans he knew “many of you feel disappointed in our oldest allies.”
“Let’s be clear about the immeasurable outcomes. The global economy will be very difficult,” she said at the time.
A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found 37% supported the president’s actions regarding the economy, down five points since returning to the White House this year. In the same poll, nearly 75% also said they were worried about the recession.
Another poll from the Associated Press-NORC Research Center found that 76% of respondents said the president’s customs policy would raise either “more” or “somewhat” prices for U.S. consumer goods. Meanwhile, 12% said they believe that tariff policies will not change the prices of consumer goods, while 11% say they will lower prices “somewhat” or “greatly.”
Oka reached out to the White House for comments.
