House Democrat: Senators should have 'full information' before Gaetz vote

Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-Md.), a member of the House Ethics Committee, said senators had “complete information” about the investigation and report into former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) before voting. He said that he believes it is necessary to obtain This is to approve the nomination for Attorney General.

“Given the Senate's need to fulfill this constitutional duty, I'm not talking about the contents of the report, but if senators want to see it, they should have the right to see it. I think so,'' Ivey said on MSNBC on Sunday.

The committee has come under increasing pressure to release its findings on Gaetz after President-elect Donald Trump announced he would nominate him for attorney general.

Gaetz resigned from his post after making the announcement, halting an ongoing investigation into whether the Florida Republican was involved in charges including sexual misconduct and illegal drug use.

The committee began investigating Gates in 2021, shortly after news emerged that the Justice Department was investigating whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

The announcement sent shock waves on Capitol Hill, leaving Republicans to decide whether to face Trump's wrath if they denounce his choice or vote to confirm Gates' nomination.

Ivey argued that senators need to have “complete information” about Gaetz before voting.

“This is an important office with 110,000 employees. It's the chief law enforcement officer of the United States and one of the key positions in the Cabinet,” he said. “Senators should be given the opportunity to see it.”
