Pennsylvania Rep. Dwight Evans Will Not Seek Re-Election
Pennsylvania Democrat Dwight Evans has announced that he will not run for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives next year, although he plans to complete his current term. In a recent statement, he indicated that after careful reflection, he felt it was the right time to step back from the campaign for 2026.
Evans, who has been representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd congressional district since November 2016, previously held a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives starting in 1981. His decision comes after he revealed last year that he had experienced minor strokes, prompting him to focus on his health.
“Serving the people of PA-03 was a lifelong honor and privilege,” Evans remarked, expressing gratitude to the residents of Philadelphia for their trust and support throughout his career. His statements suggest a strong commitment to voter engagement moving forward. He emphasized the importance of increasing voter turnout in Philadelphia, recognizing that every voice matters and collective voting power can help Democrats reclaim congressional dominance.
Additionally, Evans called on elected officials to listen attentively to the challenges their constituents face, underscoring the need for bold leadership that responds to the needs of the community.
Following this announcement, other politicians, including Republican Rep. Don Bacon from Nebraska, have also stated they will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming term. As we move closer to the election cycle, these decisions from various lawmakers could shape the political landscape considerably.
