House Democrats Call for Noem’s Impeachment
On Tuesday, House Democrats increased pressure on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, demanding her removal over fatal actions by a federal agent in Minnesota. They warned that impeachment proceedings could follow if she remains in her position.
This move came from both House Democratic leaders and the Judiciary Committee, reflecting a shift from verbal criticism to formal impeachment threats.
In a joint statement, Democratic leaders—Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar—accused the previous Trump administration of utilizing federal law enforcement in ways that led to violence. They stated, “The Trump administration has weaponized taxpayer dollars to murder Americans, brutalize communities, and violently target law-abiding immigrant families. This country is tired of what the Department of Homeland Security is doing.”
Leaders expressed urgency, saying that Noem should be removed immediately, or they would initiate impeachment in the House. “You can do this the easy way or the hard way,” they warned.
The Democrats’ demands come in light of criticism directed at Noem following the killing of two Americans by federal agents earlier this month in Minnesota.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, Maryland’s ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, urged the committee chairman, Jim Jordan, to begin impeachment proceedings unless Noem resigns or is removed. He accused her of presiding over what he termed the unlawful killings and a subsequent cover-up.
“Instead of condemning these unlawful and barbaric killings, Secretary Noem immediately labeled Renee Good and Alex Preti ‘domestic terrorists,’ blatantly lied about the shooting’s circumstances, and sought to cover up any legitimate investigation,” Raskin said.
Separately, Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania called on President Trump to fire Noem directly, accusing her of betraying the department’s core mission.
In contrast, President Trump confirmed he has no intention of asking Noem to resign. When questioned about her future, he expressed confidence in her performance, stating she is doing a “great job” and emphasizing her role in closing the borders.
