House Democrats express worry over Jasmine Crockett's Texas Senate campaign, according to a report.

Concerns have emerged among some House Democrats regarding Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s campaign for the U.S. Senate, as reported by Axios. There’s a sense that while she might succeed in the primary, her chances in the general election could be slim in Texas. One senior House Democrat expressed doubts, saying, “She may win the primary, but she can’t beat the general in Texas.”

Crockett officially launched her Senate campaign last week, using a video that featured President Donald Trump critiquing progressive lawmakers. Another anonymous House member remarked, “That’s a matter of concern for swing districts… I think this is a bad decision.”

Crockett responded to the criticism, stating, “It’s hard to see clearly who the Texans are through the fog in Washington. My message reaches people who are often ignored by the political class. I’m not running a campaign focused on internal politics. I’m focused on appealing to and gaining their trust, all 30 million Texans.”

On the Republican side, the competition includes current Senator John Cornyn and his challengers, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt. Crockett will be up against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in the primary.

Further voicing concerns about her viability, another House Democrat noted that there are doubts about her ability to win, especially since Paxton seems like a potential weak opponent. They said, “I hope the state of Texas elects someone who will give us a seat.”

However, Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vermont), who is aligned with the progressive wing, praised Crockett’s abilities, referring to her as a “gifted messenger.” Similarly, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) expressed his belief in her chances. “I believe she can win,” he stated.

Balint added, “Crockett was an extremely gifted messenger who engaged millions of Americans across the country.” Despite the skepticism, Crockett has asserted that she doesn’t need the backing of Trump supporters to secure the Texas Senate seat.

In her view, while converting Trump supporters isn’t the aim, her focus is on connecting with those who have historically felt disengaged from the political process. “I don’t know necessarily that we’re going to convert all Trump supporters. That’s not our goal,” she explained.
