Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) is resigning from Congress this week, but he shouldn’t expect a friendly send-off from his fellow Republicans.
The House Freedom Caucus voted Tuesday night to oust Buck as its primary candidate. report by the hill. Although he has been a member of the Conservative Party caucus for years, he has reportedly not attended meetings in recent months.
The previous week, Buck announced he would resign from Congress on Friday, further reducing House Republicans’ narrow majority and leaving the district unrepresented for three months until a special election is finalized.
Coloradans have lost many allies in Congress since breaking away from the party on key priorities, including supporting Donald Trump and refusing to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. He also voted against the party’s then-speaker candidate, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), on the House floor. And he told CNN last year that he would not run for re-election because Republicans “continue to lie” about the 2020 election results and what happened on January 6, 2021.
Mr. Bach publicly acknowledged last year that he was considering leaving Congress early to take a lucrative position as a talking head for left-wing establishment media outlets like CNN.
The lawmaker gave a vague reason for leaving the party early, telling CNN, “I want to join this election cycle.”s Dana Bash said this last week.
“Well, Dana, everywhere I go in Colorado, I hear that people are not happy with Trump or Biden. I think we need to change our election laws here, and I’m passionate about it. I’m going to leave here and fight to find the right organization to join. I’m going to start working on that problem. Not just the president, but the Senate, the House of Representatives, the local offices. We have to get candidates on the ballot. We have to find better ways to elect candidates and unite America.”
A spokesperson for the House Freedom Caucus told Breitbart News that “HFC does not comment on membership or internal processes.”
