Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) gets into an altercation with Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett during a train wreck Thursday night during a House Oversight Committee hearing. MPs then took turns body shaming each other.
The hearing on whether to move forward with a contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland saw Greene bring up the daughter of the Manhattan judge who presided over former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial and also comment on Crockett’s appearance. It got out of control. -Texas).
“I’d like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee employ judges.” [Juan] Martian’s daughter,” asked Green.
Mr. Crockett demanded that Mr. Greene explain “what does that have to do with Merrick Garland,” and asked the Republican flame-monger: “Do you know what we’re here for? ” he asked.
“I think you know what you’re here for,” Green retorted. “I think your false eyelashes are ruining what I’m reading.”
There was confusion in the chamber over this comment.
“That doesn’t even apply to you, Mr. Greene!” As panel chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) repeatedly banged his gavel and called for order, leading Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Ky.) Maryland) interjected.
“That’s totally unacceptable!” Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) yelled at Greene, demanding that her comments be removed from the record.
“Attack on someone else’s appearance! That’s just how it is!” “Squad,” the senator added.
Greene then mocked Ocasio-Cortez’s anger.
“Are your feelings hurt? Oh,” she said.
“Oh! Girl, baby, girl!” Ocasio-Cortez cringed. “Don’t play!”
“Well, really? A baby girl? I don’t think so,” Green said.
Georgia Republicans later agreed to attack her words, but refused to apologize to Crockett.
“I’m not apologizing,” Greene said before challenging Ocasio-Cortez to a debate.
“Why don’t you argue with me!” she demanded.
“I think that’s pretty self-evident!” Ocasio-Cortez also fired back.
“That’s right, you don’t have enough intelligence,” Greene said in another rant, prompting groans from the chamber and calls again to attack her words.
When things seemed to calm down, Crockett took the microphone, questioned Comer about what constituted a personal attack, and fired at Green.
“I’m just curious. To better understand your ruling, if anyone on this committee starts talking about someone’s bleached-blond, short-bodied, butch body, It doesn’t involve personality, does it?” asked Crockett.
“What, now?” a confused Comer replied.
“I have no idea what I just said,” said the exasperated chairman.
Crockett’s shot at Green seemed to amuse Ruskin, who looked around the room wide-eyed and tried to hide his smile.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) told Crockett to “calm down” as the Texas Democrat loudly demanded an explanation from other screaming lawmakers. Ta.
“No! I can’t stand everyone talking about the noise, so don’t tell me to calm down!” Crockett yelled.
“Because if I come and talk about her, people will have problems!” she continued.
Shortly after the controversial back-and-forth, the committee, along party lines, held Garland in contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with a subpoena seeking audio recordings of President Biden’s meeting with the special counsel. It was approved to send the resolution to the plenary session of the House of Representatives. Robert Herr, who is under federal investigation for his handling of classified documents.
