House Oversight Committee summons Ghislaine Maxwell for interview on August 11 in prison

House Republicans Subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell

WASHINGTON – House Republicans have called in Ghislaine Maxwell, a known associate of Jeffrey Epstein, for a deposition next month, pointing to significant public interest and scrutiny tied to her ongoing lawsuit and the extensive federal investigation linked to Epstein.

Maxwell’s deposition is tentatively set for August 11 at the federal correctional facility in Tallahassee. She is currently serving a 20-year sentence after being found guilty of involvement in a sex trafficking conspiracy that involved a 14-year-old minor, among other charges.

“The Department of Justice is working to release more details regarding the case involving Mr. Epstein, but it’s crucial that Congress plays a role in overseeing how sex trafficking laws are enforced, particularly in relation to the investigations and prosecutions involving you and Mr. Epstein,” officials stated.

Moreover, the committee aims to gather her testimony to explore potential legislative solutions aimed at addressing sex trafficking and enhancing federal efforts to reform judicial processes concerning gender crimes.

The Subcommittee Task Force of the Surveillance Panel on Declassification of Federal Secrets has requested a briefing from the Department of Justice regarding Epstein’s federal investigation, along with calls for the release of the complete “Epstein Files.”

To date, the DOJ has declined to publish all associated documents, releasing only a few that were part of Maxwell’s trial, which concluded with her conviction in December 2021.

A recent memo from the Joint DOJ-FBI concluded that Epstein, who was 66 at the time, died by suicide in a Manhattan jail on August 10, 2019. The memo also mentioned that the “client lists” in question did not breach any established protocols.

On a related note, Assistant Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated that he plans to meet with Maxwell shortly.

“President Trump urged us to release all credible evidence. If Maxwell has any information regarding the crimes against the victims, the FBI and DOJ are prepared to listen,” Blanche stated. He further mentioned that until now, the administration had not previously inquired about her willingness to cooperate, but that situation has now evolved.
