House Oversight Plans to Hold Clintons in Contempt After They Avoid Epstein Testimony

Contempt Proceedings Against Clintons Looming

The House Oversight Committee is gearing up to possibly hold Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt for not testifying in the ongoing investigation regarding Jeffrey Epstein.

A spokesperson from the committee informed that they would initiate contempt charges against the former President and Secretary of State if they do not attend the scheduled depositions. Just hours before the Tuesday deadline, the Clintons indicated they would not be appearing to testify before Chairman Comer and the committee.

“The Clintons haven’t confirmed their attendance for the subpoenas they’ve received. They’re legally obligated to show up, and we expect them to follow through. If they decide not to show, we will proceed with contempt of Congress,” the spokesperson stated.

Reports suggest the Clintons have filed an eight-page legal document claiming that the subpoena is “null and unenforceable.” Following this, they issued a joint statement vowing to resist Comer’s efforts for as long as necessary.

In their letter, the Clintons mentioned they had already provided affidavits similar to those accepted by several other past officials who were excused from testifying. Additionally, they argued they possess no relevant information related to the investigation.

“We believe that any reasonable individual, whether in or out of Congress, will see that your actions are aimed at punishing perceived enemies while protecting allies,” they articulated.

They cited various issues including President Trump’s immigration policies and Republican resistance against healthcare benefits, claiming that Comer is utilizing Congress as a means to conduct a politically motivated process aimed at imprisoning them.

“Each person has to determine when enough is enough and if they’re ready to stand up for this country and its principles, regardless of where it leads,” they expressed. “For us, now is the time.”

The Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee, with bipartisan agreement, had previously voted to subpoena ten individuals, including the Clintons, in relation to crimes allegedly committed by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. This occurred on July 23, 2025, with the subpoena being served on August 5, 2025.

Bill Clinton’s deposition was initially requested after October 14, 2025, but he refused a proposed date in December to attend a funeral. The committee indicated they were open to rescheduling if he could propose a date in January, which he did not, leading to the issuance of a new summons for sworn testimony on January 13, 2026.

Hillary Clinton’s testimony was originally set for October 9, 2025, but she also declined a funeral date in December. The committee then recommended rescheduling for January, yet she failed to propose an alternative date. Her deposition is now scheduled for January 14, 2026.

The committee plans to move forward with the depositions regardless of the Clintons’ attendance. Should they fail to show, contempt proceedings will commence in the upcoming days.
