The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill that would ban the government from purchasing Americans’ personal data from data brokers, a move considered to circumvent the Fourth Amendment.

Davidson’s proposal was to be included as an amendment to the Intelligence Reform and Securing America Act (RISAA), a bill that would reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). However, House Speaker Mike Johnson blocked the amendment from consideration. Instead, the bill had to be considered on its own merits on the floor of the House.
