House passes bill to quadruple the pensions of Medal of Honor recipients

The law quadruples the pension for the Medal of Honors received passed through the home on Wednesday with unanimous, bipartisan support.

The bill sailed through the house 424-0. If passed by the Senate and signed by the president, it would boost payments for those who win the nation's best military awards, from $16,880 a year to $67,500 a year.

Supporters of the bill, led by Troy Nehls' R-Texas, R-Texas and Dn.H.'s Chris Pappas, say salaries will ease the financial burden on medal winners who often cross the country for engagements in their own Dime.

Increased pensions are paid through disability compensation from veteran issues. Extending pension restrictions for veterans without spouses or dependents from 2031 to 2033 offsets costs associated with increased wages.
