House Republican Under Fire to Encounter Censure from Nancy Mace

South Carolina Representative to Censure Florida Colleague

Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, is set to introduce a resolution on Wednesday aimed at censuring her fellow Republican, Representative Cory Mills from Florida. This move highlights ongoing tensions within the Republican Party in the House.

Mace’s resolution aims to remove Mills from the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees. Since the resolution carries privileged status, House Republican leaders are required to vote on it by Friday, according to sources.

This development follows House Democrats who initiated their own censure action against Mills, a reaction to the Republican-led censure attempt of Democratic delegate Stacey Plaskett from the U.S. Virgin Islands. Republicans accused nonvoting delegates of consulting the late Jeffrey Epstein during a congressional hearing back in 2019.

However, Democrats later withdrew their resolution after Republicans couldn’t gather the necessary votes to both censure Plaskett and remove her from the House Intelligence Committee.

In response to the situation, Mace and other conservative Republicans criticized the party for failing to move forward with the censure against Plaskett. Allegations emerged from conservative circles suggesting that some Republicans sabotaged the censure effort to protect Mills.

“It seems like there was yet another backdoor agreement to shield Corey Mills from censure for what they’re calling ‘Stolen Courage,'” Mace stated on X this Wednesday. “Here we are. Just typical Washington.”

Additionally, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna expressed her thoughts on Mills via a post on Wednesday, implying that he should not run for re-election.

Mace’s censure resolution is expected to address various allegations against Mills, such as claims of domestic violence and so-called stolen courage, referencing past remarks about him. Mills has categorically denied any wrongdoing.

Mace had previously indicated plans to censure Mills back in September. At that time, Mills and several Republicans had successfully obstructed Mace’s effort to censure Democrat Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

While Mills asserted that the vote aimed to protect Omar from formal censure, he argued that she should face investigation instead.

As of now, a spokesperson for Mills has not yet replied to inquiries from the media.
