House Republicans issue a subpoena to Pam Bondi regarding Epstein documents

House Oversight Committee Subpoenas Attorney General Pam Bondi

On Tuesday, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer (R-Ky.), issued a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding her management of the Epstein file.

The committee approved a subpoena that mandates Bondi to testify about the Justice Department’s handling of the investigation and the Epstein File Transparency Act.

Comer mentioned that Bondi’s testimony might “suggest legislative solutions” for enhancing the government’s approach to sex trafficking and possibly reforming how non-prosecution agreements or plea bargains are used in sex crime cases.

The rationale for the subpoena did not strongly criticize Bondi, yet it was eventually endorsed on March 4 by Republican members of the committee, who had voiced concerns about her leadership.

Interestingly, Democratic committee members also supported the subpoena, along with Republican Senators Nancy Mace (South Carolina), Lauren Boebert (Colorado), Tim Burchett (Tennessee), Michael Cloud (Texas), and Scott Perry (Pennsylvania).

In response, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Justice characterized the subpoena as “totally unnecessary,” arguing that Bondi had already been transparent with lawmakers about the Epstein File Transparency Act.

The Justice Department highlighted that Congress members have been welcomed to review the unredacted files directly at the department, and Bondi has consistently been available to discuss the matter with them.

Ultimately, Bondi is required to appear before the commission on April 14.
