The Senate has received two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas from House Republicans.

On Tuesday, House impeachment managers walked through the Capitol to the Senate floor with two articles.

Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Texas), Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas), Representatives Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), and Ben Kline (R-Ariz.). (Virginia), Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.), Michael Guest (R-Mich.), Harriet Hageman (R-WY), Clay Higgins (R-L.), Laurel Lee. (R-Fla.), August Pflueger (R-Texas), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) were selected as House impeachment managers.

The group was led by the House Clerk and the Sergeant at Arms.

When the article arrived on the Senate floor, the charges were read aloud.

These provisions are expected to pass in the Senate, where Democrats hold a majority. Even for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-N.Y.), it’s unclear what the trial will look like.

Schumer previously said he wanted the Senate to conclude the impeachment trial “as quickly as possible.” It is unclear whether the majority leader will reject or submit the article.

For impeachment to take effect, a two-thirds majority of the chamber must vote to convict Mayorkas.

House Republicans voted for the first time to impeach Mayorkas, accusing him of failing to enforce border laws amid a chaotic influx of migrants arriving at the southern border to enter the United States illegally.

Mayorkas is the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached since 1876. The first person to be impeached was former Secretary of War William Belknap.
