House Speaker Throws Support Behind Byron Donalds for Florida Governor!

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is endorsing R-Fla Rep. Byron Donald for the position of Governor of Florida.

“Byron Donald is the steadfast conservative leader that Floridians can rely on as their next governor,” Johnson stated in a remark shared with Fox News Digital, initially reported by the Politico Playbook.

“In Congress, Byron has consistently championed Florida and President Trump’s initial American agenda. He embodies the same tenacity as the governor and dedicates himself daily to enhancing the lives of families in Florida.

The Sunshine Republican expressed gratitude to Johnson for his backing and referred to him as a “good friend” in a post on X.

“From grassroots tea party activism to my candidacy for the Capitol and Governor of Florida, my commitment to our sunny state has been unwavering. Together, we are making America great again.”

Lawmakers revealed his gubernatorial ambitions in February after President Donald Trump had promised his support should he decide to run.

“Byron Donald will be an exceptional and influential governor for Florida. If he opts to run, he will have my complete and unwavering support,” Trump stated in a Truth Social post in February.

Recently, Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., endorsed Donald’s gubernatorial campaign.

The current Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, is serving his second consecutive term but is ineligible for re-election in 2026.

The Florida Constitution states that “individuals who have served as governor or acting governor for over six years in two consecutive terms, or who have not resigned from their position, are not eligible to be elected as a future governor.”
