How Aaron Glenn is convincing Quinnen Williams about the Jets' future

Jets coach Aaron Glenn has been advocating for patience during the team’s rebuilding phase. He highlighted the importance of establishing a strong foundation for consistent victories.

This might sound straightforward, but what about players like Quinnen Williams? The veteran defensive tackle, now in his seventh year, hasn’t yet experienced the playoffs. Is it really fair to ask him to be patient?

“That’s probably the toughest conversation to have, especially with younger players. They need to grasp that to win consistently, they must focus on the fundamentals,” Glenn remarked. “I mention this often because there’s still a lot of work ahead if we want to succeed. My experiences in New Orleans and Detroit, as well as playing here, have shown me that laying down that groundwork is essential. Players like Williams are vital to our plans, and his leadership is crucial during this process.”

Glenn emphasized that he wants Williams to recognize the significance of his leadership role in this rebuild.

“So, focus more on your leadership and impact on the team,” Glenn advised. “You’ve been in this league for seven years, but who says you can’t start influencing things this week or even for next season? That’s based on my own journey.”

“We’ve had rough starts before—like 0-10-1 or 3-13. But there’s potential for a comeback. We managed to turn around from 1-6 to finish 9-8. Every game is crucial, especially for someone like him.”

“I’ve been through similar situations,” Glenn continued. “Like I often tell our fans, don’t lose hope. We still have time to turn things around. Sure, we’re 0-6 now, but we’re focused on building and progressing.”

The Jets have now declared cornerback Michael Carter II (concussion) as out. They’ve signed WR Isaiah Williams to the active roster and released LB Mark Robinson. Additionally, they’ve activated LB Ja Marquis Weston from IR and promoted CB Corey Black and LB Jackson Sermon from the practice squad for the upcoming game against the Panthers. In the prior week’s game against the Broncos, FB Andrew Beck faced a $7,431 fine for unnecessary roughness, while LB Kiko Mauigoa was fined $5,215 for a similar infraction.
