How Anthony Richardson reacted to Daniel Jones signing with Colts

Anthony Richardson's agents were ahead of trade rumours due to competition this offseason after the Colts targeted Vikings and former Gantell quarterback Daniel Jones.

Indianapolis plans to sign a $14 million contract worth up to $17.7 million, with $13.15 million guaranteed.

Richardson's agent Deiric Jackson said the overall pick for No. 4 in 2023 was healthy and there were no plans to seek trade after Jones' acquisition.

“AR is ready to roll.” Jackson told the NFL Network.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard told reporters for the NFL Scouting Combine last month that he would explore free agency, trade or drafts to find “real competition” for Richardson.

“I think that's good for the team, and I think it's good for Anthony.” Ballard said.

“It has to be the right guy who will cause real competition, but we want to create real competition.”

Richardson endured a turbulent sophomore season that disrupts his outlook with the franchise after being selected fourth overall in the 2023 draft.

He completed 47.7% of passes for 1,814 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 11 games last season, and the team benched him for Joe Flaco temporarily after he pulled himself out of the game.

The quarterback has dealt with the issue of leaving work throughout 15 starts at Indianapolis.

Former Colts punter and superfan Pat McAfee are those questioning whether Indianapolis has a future quarterback.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said he was looking for more “consistency” from Richardson.

“Every year, I think that's what it is in the NFL,” Steichen told Combine when asked if it was Richardson's Make-or-Break year. “You had to show up and play. Every year there was that pressure situation and you started to show up every week and perform at your best.”

Jones, 27, did not appear in the Minnesota game after joining the Vikings before last season's playoffs following the Giants exit.

He is looking to regain the QB1 role after 69 began with the Giants for six seasons.

Jones completed 2,241 passes (64.1 percent) to 1,437 passes (64.1 percent) for 14,582 yards, 70 TDS and 47 intercepts.

Jason Bean, who was on the majority of practice teams last season, is the only quarterback with a 2025 Colts contract.
