Caitlyn Clark Discusses Injury Challenges
Caitlyn Clark, the Fever superstar, has recently opened up about “a truly frustrating day” as she navigates her first significant injury.
In an episode of the “Bird’s-eye view” podcast, Clark revealed that she’s been sidelined with a groin injury since July 15th. During the talk with WNBA champion Suvard, she spoke candidly about the physical and mental hurdles she faces during recovery.
“There was a lot to manage… I think that was a big part of the year,” Clark reflected. She missed the last nine games of the season and expressed frustration over her performance, saying, “I’ve been active and played four games, but I haven’t done my best.” The offseason was particularly tough for her.
“There are definitely days that are frustrating. Some days you’re highly motivated, and then there are others where you just want to be back on the court,” she noted. “It’s not like I’m having a training camp to prepare for the first game back; it feels more like being thrown into Game 30.”
Clark, who is 23, initially missed time due to her groin injury in late June, returned to play in early July, but had to sit out again after aggravating the injury later that month.
She shared how confusing it was feeling pain from the injury. “I think it provided me with a better perspective on what many of my teammates are experiencing. I’d never gone through something like this before, which is why it felt particularly hard,” she admitted. “When I first felt the pain, I was unsure—wondering if I just needed to stretch or if I was simply getting older.”
The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year expressed gratitude for the experience, despite the challenges. “I believe this has taught me to understand my body better. I’ll appreciate this moment throughout my career.”
Clark missed the 2025 WNBA All-Star Festival in Indiana last month and had also missed time earlier in the season due to a left quadriceps strain.
In 13 games this season, she has averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists. The Fever (17-14) are set to face off against Clark’s college rival, former LSU star Angel Reese, and the Skye (8-22) in Indianapolis on Saturday.
