Tributes at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards
While the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards didn’t feature a memorial section, Chelsea Handler honored the late Diane Keaton by channeling one of her classic styles.
During her hosting duties, Handler donned a sleek black tuxedo paired with a crisp white shirt and a black tie. She mentioned to the audience that her outfit was a tribute to Keaton, who famously wore tailored suits throughout her illustrious career.
Handler remarked, “This little costume is a tribute to Diane Keaton, who we should remember tonight,” emphasizing Keaton’s impact on everyone present.
In addition to honoring Keaton, Handler also paid her respects to Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, who were tragically killed in December. She stated, “Rob and Michelle worked tirelessly for so many important causes, all based on one fundamental idea: civility. I think we can all agree that we need more of that.”
Diane Keaton passed away from pneumonia in October at the age of 79. A friend revealed that her health deteriorated quite unexpectedly in the months leading up to her death. Shortly before she died, her trainer shared on social media that she maintained her signature menswear style even during workouts, attracting attention with her distinctive look.
Following her passing, many of Keaton’s close friends expressed their sorrow. Goldie Hawn, her co-star from The First Wives Club, became emotional while honoring her at a recent gala, stating, “She brought so much joy, so much life, so much vibrancy. She was like lightning in a bottle.”
Handler’s tributes at the awards were heartfelt but also a reflection of the absence of a formal memorial segment in the program, which left some moments feeling incomplete.
Sarah Paulson, one of Keaton’s closest friends, also shared her feelings, noting that Keaton was an even more remarkable person in real life than as an actress. Reflecting on their relationship, she highlighted the importance of communication in their friendship.
