He is said to have been briefly put out at about 7pm to secure the kitchen light bulb, but when it failed he was quickly re-locked by his stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan.

The victim told officers that it was “same old, same old” when he heard Sullivan shut the bedroom door around 8pm.

It was only then that he chose to start a flame with a trembling space, complaint accusations.

He used hand sanitizers, paper, stacks of games and lightweight to place the fire near the door, officers said.

The victim told investigators that a year ago when his father died, he discovered a light stash in his jacket pocket and was allowed to store some of his clothes.

Recognizing the risk, the victim said she knew she had to make sure the flames couldn't be eliminated by his stepmother — and she would be forced to call the fire department, officers said.

“When the fire got better, he began screaming for help. [He] According to court documents, Sullivan asked what he wanted and said he cried out to him that he told her “fire.”

When she finally unleashed the door, Vic told his stepmother that the radio he was allowed to hold was malfunctioning.

“At this point, he was out and collapsed on the top of the stairs… Sullivan stood up and went downstairs to the bathroom to wash his face,” he said.

He recalled that his sister and her boyfriend arrived at the house around the same time as the firefighters.

“[The victim] Sullivan yelled to stand up and fell to the ground again,” the complaint said. “He stayed on the ground and didn't wake up intentionally, so the fire department was forced to get him.”

The victim later told officers he feared this was the only way to get out of the nightmare.

When he was being treated by EMS, the victim confessed that he had deliberately started Inferno because he wanted his “freedom.”

His tragic explanation began an investigation that determined he had been bred for more than 20 years.

“He resembles a survivor of Auschwitz's death camp without exaggeration,” officials said of the victim's condition.

His stepmother, who claimed she was innocent, was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault, inducement, illegal restraint, cruelty and reckless danger.
