How God Led NBA Player Jonathan Isaac through Challenges

Jonathan Isaac Reflects on Faith and Challenges

Orlando Magic player Jonathan Isaac shares how his faith has guided him through the ups and downs of the last five years, which have been quite challenging, both physically and emotionally. He recalls the pivotal moment in 2020 when he gained attention for choosing not to kneel during the national anthem, while his teammates did so in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. “The stand is all I say is Christ is the answer,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of faith during that time. “He’s still the answer,” he added.

Looking back, Isaac believes that Christians should always stand firm for the gospel, even when faced with backlash. “As Christians, we stand up to God’s Word and say, ‘I see what the world is saying, but I’m going to choose what God is saying, regardless of the flack that we get from it,’” he explained.

While he recognized that many were upset following George Floyd’s death, Isaac maintained that the “Gospel” of Jesus Christ can still reach people’s hearts, and that it “always will be the answer.”

“What will change us?” he asked. “The gospel. It changed me, and that’s what I am resting on.”

In another twist, Isaac has developed a faith-based apparel brand called Unitas, which emerged after he suffered a torn ACL that cost him a potential deal with Nike. “I have difficult situations. I don’t know why God is taking me through this moment of tearing my ACL. It’s really devastating—not just physical injuries, but also injuries to your career,” he explained, noting how such setbacks can feel insurmountable.

Despite these challenges, Isaac’s pastor encouraged him to establish Unitas. Sweatshirts and sneakers carry engraved Bible verses, which he believes can connect individuals to Christ and one another.

Isaac reflects on how his emotional and physical tests have prepared him for launching Unitas. He hopes that by wearing his brand, people will keep what’s truly important close to their hearts. “I want to live in a way that respects God. And obviously, there are connections with other people who are wearing the brand. It’s more than just a brand to be celebrated,” he said.
