How Jon Rahm, all 18 LIV Golf players scored, finished at The Open Championship

Eighteen LIV golfers participated in the British Open, making it one of the largest groups of participants among this year’s four majors.

More than 10% of the field at Royal Troon last weekend were Saudi Arabian players in the Saudi-backed league, which saw Bryson DeChambeau win just the second major championship in the country after Brooks Koepka won his first at the 2023 PGA Championship.

Eleven of the 18 players made the cut and played all four days, including past major winners Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm and Koepka.

Let’s take a look at how each of the 18 players performed in the last major championship.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm is the highest-ranked LIV Golf player in a tie for seventh place. He shot a 3-under 68 on Sunday to rocket up the leaderboard but just wasn’t consistent enough to win his third major title.

After four rounds of play, he finished with scores of 73-70-72-68, his best result in a major this season. The Spaniard withdrew before the U.S. Open because of a toe infection, missed the cut at the PGA Championship and tied for 45th at Augusta National.

Rahm was the only LIV golfer to finish under par this week.

John Catlin

The second best finish at Royal Troon was John Catlin who tied for 16th place. He shot a final round of 71 to finish two over par overall.

Through four rounds of play, Catlin finished with records of 76-70-69-71.

Dean Burmester

Next up was Dean Burmester, the South African up-and-coming player who qualified for this year’s Open after winning the Johannesburg Open last November. He was in contention for the win after two rounds but lost badly in the third round and missed out on the championship. The 35-year-old Burmester finished tied for 19th place after shooting a par 71 on Sunday.

Burmester finished with shots of 71-69-76-71 after four rounds. He is one of the few LIV golfers to have played in most of the majors, having also played in the PGA Championship and U.S. Open earlier this year. Burmester finished tied for 12th at Valhalla and took sole first place with a 69th at Pinehurst No. 2.

Laurie Cantor

The fourth LIV golfer competing over the weekend was Rory Canter, who shot 71-74-70-74 over four days of play to finish the tournament at five over par.

Dustin Johnson

Dustin Johnson didn’t have his best performance in the 2024 major championship season. He played in all four majors but only made the cut twice. Johnson’s best performance came this week at Royal Troon, where he shot a four-over 75 on Sunday to finish tied for 31st at six over par.

He missed the cut at Augusta National and the U.S. Open. The 2020 Masters winner finished tied for 43rd at the PGA Championship.

Brooks Koepka

The sixth LIV golfer competing over the weekend was Brooks Koepka, who typically performs well in major championships, but it’s been a fairly lackluster year for the five-time major champion.

At Royal Troon, Koepka was tied for 43rd in the tournament at eight over par, and after four rounds of play he shot 70-73-78-71, including a par on Sunday, to move up to 19th on the leaderboard.

Koepka has played in and made the cut in all four major tournaments, but his best results were ties for 26th at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. At the Masters, Koepka tied for 45th.

Adrian Melonk

Adrian Melonk is one of the newcomers to LIV Golf who joined the Saudi Arabia-backed league after being left off the Ryder Cup team last year.

At Royal Troon, he finished the tournament at nine over par and tied for 50th, his only Grand Slam weekend this year. His records for the week were 73-72-73-75.

Joaquin Niemann

Earlier this year, Joaquin Niemann was one of the most popular golfers in the world. But since his historic sub-60, his form has declined. At the British Open, the Chilean finished 10 over par, tied for 58th. On Sunday, he shot a 5-over 76, dropping him 18 places in the standings.

Niemann was in line to win at even par after two days of play, but lost 76-76 over the weekend and quickly fell out of the running for the championship. The only major tournament Niemann missed was the U.S. Open, where he missed the cut. Niemann’s best finish in a major was a tie for 29th at Augusta National. He tied for 39th at the PGA Championship and tied for 58th this week.

Abraham Ansah

Tied with Niemann for 58th place is Abraham Ansell with records of 73-75-70-76 this week, which is the Mexican golfer’s only major tournament of the year.

Phil Mickelson

Mickelson is another LIV Golf player who has played in all four majors this year. He finished near the bottom of the leaderboard at Royal Troon at 11 over par. On Sunday, he played alongside fellow left-handed golfer Robert McIntyre and shot a five-over 76.

Mickelson shot 73-74-72-76 this week. He’s playing just the second major weekend in 2024 and missed the cut at Valhalla and Pinehurst. He finished tied for 43rd at the Masters and tied for 60th at the British Open this week.

Andy Ogletree

Andy Ogletree was the final LIV golfer to compete in The Open this weekend. He finished one spot away from last place out of the 80 players who made the cut. Ogletree finished 19 over par for the tournament with shots of 75-72-79-77.

Below is a list of LIV Golfers who missed the cut at the British Open.

— Henrik Stenson: 8 over par
— Tyrrell Hatton: 8 over
— Louis Oosthuizen: 8 over
— Sam Horsfield: 8 over
— Bryson DeChambeau: 9 over par
— Cameron Smith: 12 overs
— David Puig: 13 overs
