How KJ Dillard's mental health issues impacted his relationship with Dara Levitan

K.J. Dillard’s Relationship Update

K.J. Dillard has shared that he and his girlfriend, Dara Levitan, who also stars on Summer House, have temporarily parted ways, citing his mental health struggles as a key reason.

During a recent episode of “More Life with Karl Radke,” Dillard mentioned that before joining the show, he wasn’t really active in his career. “Modeling was slow, and I took time off over the summer to focus on shows,” he said, acknowledging that this situation left him financially strained.

“Dara was planning to stick around,” he explained, “but in the end, it wouldn’t have been healthy for either of us.” Dillard reflected on their relationship, noting that he was often projecting his own issues onto Levitan without realizing it.

Despite being on medication for anxiety and depression, he discovered he was also dealing with borderline personality disorder, a diagnosis he revealed during the recent reunion of “Summer House.” Levitan ultimately decided to end the relationship when Dillard hit a low point. “It was necessary,” he noted, emphasizing that it was for the best.

He discussed needing space after being hospitalized for self-harm in late 2025. “I needed time…that’s when it was right to say goodbye,” he added, admitting that dating during his recovery would have complicated things. “In my mind, I might have prioritized the relationship over my health,” he reflected. “Recovery really has changed my life.”

Interestingly, Dillard still considers Levitan his “babe,” and noted that while public perceptions may affect them, they are clear about their feelings and what they’ve experienced together. “It’s kind of a love story,” he insisted, focusing on their commitment to each other despite external pressures.

However, just last week, the couple unfollowed each other on social media, prompting concern among fans. Dillard also removed all their photos together from his Instagram and shared some cryptic posts, one simply stating “Welp.” But shortly after, he launched a music video for his song “My Lil Thing,” which features Levitan.

The lyrics of the song hint at their relationship, stating, “She’s mine/Stay close to me and give me a wedding ring.” The song also references moments from season 10 of Summer House, blending personal and public experiences.

Earlier, Levitan had expressed her affection for Dillard in an interview, highlighting their emotional connection. “He brings a kind and warm energy,” she said, revealing how their similarities bring out a softer side of her.
