Lane Kiffin’s Continued Success as Ole Miss Wins
As Ole Miss keeps racking up victories, former head coach Lane Kiffin is also benefiting from his departure. Even though he left the program prior to LSU’s run in the College Football Playoff (CFP), Kiffin is still cashing in on incentives from his Ole Miss contract thanks to his new deal with the Tigers.
LSU is set to pay bonuses, including a hefty $500,000 after advancing to the CFP semifinals, following their wins over Tulane and a significant victory against No. 3 Georgia.
The next challenge for Ole Miss and their new head coach, Pete Golding, is a game against No. 10 Miami.
Reports indicate that Kiffin stands to gain $750,000 if the Rebels manage to beat the Hurricanes, and potentially up to $1 million if they clinch the national title.
This situation follows Kiffin’s move to LSU, where he signed a seven-year, $91 million contract, taking over after the firing of Brian Kelly, who was a well-known figure from Notre Dame.
The drama didn’t end with Kiffin’s exit; there has been much speculation surrounding Ole Miss, particularly concerning which assistant coaches may still be allowed to participate in the upcoming semifinal against Miami.
Meanwhile, the new staff at LSU is concentrating on recruiting as the transfer portal just opened.
Kiffin had initially shown interest in attending the game against Georgia but ultimately opted to go to a women’s basketball game at LSU instead.
Some former players at Ole Miss are not pleased with Kiffin’s continued involvement from afar. Senior defensive tackle Xavian Harris voiced his frustration, describing Kiffin’s departure before the playoffs as a “slap in the face.”
“He was just trying to steal our shine. That’s all he’s trying to do, steal our shine,” Harris added, reflecting the collective sentiment among some players.
