On Saturday, May 3rd, the 151st Kentucky Derby went down at Churchill Downs in Louisville, with many of the biggest thoroughbreds in the game (which happens to be three years old) out there.
Top candidates who will set the starting line toe on the famous 1.25-mile track this year include 3-1 favorite journalism, 5-1 sovereignty and 6-1 Sandman.
They will be joined by Rodriguez, 12-1 and Citizen Bull, 20-1. Both racers belong to controversial trainer Bob Baffert, who has returned to the Derby for the first time in three years. He was suspended after it was announced that his horse was his horse that 2021 winner Medina Spirit tested positive for the steroid betamethasone.
“It’s nice to be back here and back to the old barn,” Baffert said in his first Churchill Downs appearance since 2021.
