Dustin Johnson Reflects on Retirement Plans
Dustin Johnson is considering his future. “I think I’ll have another six years,” he remarked ahead of the US Open. “I can grind for another six years. Then I’ll go fishing.”
As he approaches his 41st birthday, Johnson is back at Oakmont, where he claimed his first major title at the US Open in 2016. Nine years ago, he was among the top players in golf, but now he’s returning to the Pittsburgh course to find his form after a difficult season with LIV Golf in 2022.
“My game feels really close,” he said after finishing 10th at the LIV Virginia event last week. “It was good to have a nice finish. I played well every day… I still give a few shots. I need to clean it up a bit.”
However, Johnson hasn’t placed in the top three in the last 20 events on the Rebel Tour and missed five of his last seven majors, including both the Masters and the PGA Championship this year.
Despite this, he stated, “I want to go back,” and insists he “still got it.” Nevertheless, his move to LIV Golf, backed by significant Saudi investments, has drawn criticism and raised questions about his work ethic.
Johnson and his wife, Paulina Gretzky, frequently share photos of their family and luxurious vacations on social media.
His memorable win at Oakmont was marked by an unusual situation where he played the final seven holes unsure of his official score, due to a USGA ruling about a penalty on the fifth green during the last round. He received a penalty but still emerged victorious.
His last major triumph was the 2020 Masters.
