Oakmont, Pa. — The Tea Times for the 2025 US Open kicked off this week at Oakmont, with the opening round taking place on Thursday. Rory McIlroy, who recently completed his career grand slam by winning the Masters in April, has a promising pairing in the opening rounds.
After facing some challenges in the two tournaments that followed his Masters victory, McIlroy will be playing the first two rounds alongside fellow Irishman Shane Lowry, a good friend. They will be teeing off with 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose, starting at 7:40 a.m. in the first round and 1:25 p.m. in the second round.
On Tuesday morning, McIlroy and Lowry practiced together, starting bright and early at 6:45 a.m. and wrapping up around 9:15 a.m. They often enjoy each other’s company on the course.
It’s worth noting that Lowry was the runner-up to Dustin Johnson at the 2016 US Open held at Oakmont, despite leading by four shots going into the final round. McIlroy, however, missed the cut during that tournament. He previously took home the US Open title at Congressional in 2011.
Other notable pairings include Scottie Scheffler, the world’s top player, who will play with Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa on Thursday at 1:25 p.m., returning for a 7:40 a.m. round on Friday. Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau will be paired with Xander Schauffele and Jose Luis Barreto, teeing off both days around 7:29 a.m. Lastly, two-time US Open winner Brooks Koepka is set to play with Min Woo Lee and Justin Thomas on Thursday at 1:01 p.m.
Among the local players, Cameron Young from Sleepy Hollow Country Club is set to play on Thursday at 1:36 p.m. alongside Chris Gotterup from Little Silver, New Jersey. Glazerman from Short Hills, New Jersey will tee off from the 10th hole at 12:52 p.m. on Thursday.
